Grange Primary School Kilkeel

Grange R Green

6th Jun 2017

It has been a historic day in the life of Grange Primary School.  Today we were visited by an Eco Schools assessor, Mr Patton, who was so impressed that he awarded Green Flag status to our school.

Mr Patton is an expert in the area of Eco Schools and his work takes him to schools throughout Ireland to assess their Eco work.  He was welcomed in our school by the children singing their Eco code song and presenting their Eco news broadcast.  Mr Patton spoke to the Eco team who explained, in great detail, all of the activities they have been involved in and they gave him a tour of the school grounds.

Mr Patton described the work the school has done as ‘Outstanding’.  He was very complimentary of the children on the Eco team whom he praised for the articulate manner in which they communicated with him.  Our visitor had no hesitation in awarding green flag status and he immediately presented the flag to the children.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Mrs Sloan and Mrs McAteer who have been the driving force behind Eco initiatives in our school.  They have worked tirelessly to enthuse and engage the children in activities.  Thanks to their guidance and passion, we are in possession of a green flag!

We are grateful for the support of parents who have worked with their children at home and visited school to enhance our garden area.  Mr Patton was very aware of the efforts of the entire school community – pupils, staff, parents, grandparents and our friends in the Kingdom Men’s Shed – and he recognised that the community of Grange is very special.
