How Strong Is an Eggshell?

28th Jan 2026

To finish our topic on Our Body, Primary 5/6 explored an exciting STEM challenge: How strong is an eggshell? Although eggshells seem fragile, they actually have a clever curved structure—similar to the strong, protective shapes we find in our own bodies, such as our ribcage.

Our class discovered that eggshells are much stronger than they look. Their arched shape spreads out the pressure evenly, allowing them to hold surprising amounts of weight before breaking.

We linked this to what we have learned about the human body:

Curved, rounded shapes—like our ribs and skull—help protect delicate organs.

Structure and shape matter when it comes to strength and safety.

This was a fun, memorable way to wrap up our topic on the human body—combining science, teamwork, prediction, and investigation skills!
